From the vaults: Peppy lil' Phil Mickelson at the '91 Masters

Here's a gem from the past: a chipper little youngster by the name of Phil Mickelson, in his first Butler Cabin interview after ranking as low amateur in the 1991 Masters.

A few observations:

• I love how the late Masters chairman Hord Hardin talks to Phil like he's a precocious 7-year-old. "Did you have a good time here?" Priceless.

• Phil, then just 20 years old, had that slightly oily yes-sir, no-sir please-everybody side from the word go, didn't he?

•  Ian Woosnam won the Masters that year. But you knew that already.

• This clip is from 1991. That's nearly 20 years ago. (Math!) And yet, if you ignore the fact that it's not in HD and some of the production values are a little more primitive, this feels like it could have been from this year. The music, the course, Jim Nantz's voice ... it's all creepily timeless.

• The 2011 Masters tees off almost exactly four months to the day from today. Can't wait.
