In the first event after the anniversary of the Thanksgiving that derailed his life and career, Tiger Woods stepped up his game and hushed up all the talk about him being done and past his prime. After one round at the Chevron World Classic, Woods leads the field by one stroke.
His masterful eight-birdie performance was spoiled only by a bogey on No. 18. Still, it was a good enough performance at his own tournament to leave him at 7-under, a shot up on Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, and three shots up on Stewart Cink. And it let everybody know that Tiger might not be through kicking the field up and down the course just yet.
Yes, this is one round of four. Yes, Woods has had trouble putting together four good rounds in tournaments in 2010. But the only way Woods is going to get back in the good graces of the majority of golf fans is to win, win and win some more. Putting WOODS at the top of the leaderboard once again is the right way to start.
