Arshavin says Russia crushed Jack Wilshere's World Cup dream

Andrei Arshavin has been living in a cloud of emoticon smiley faces and tremendous pride since Russia was awarded the 2018 World Cup last week. As a member of the bid team, Arshavin was very much a part of the process, making goofy faces and getting mistaken for someone's lost child along the way, but the news hasn't been as enjoyable for all of his Arsenal teammates.

Says Arshavin (via The Sun):

Asked how his Arsenal team-mates reacted, he said: "Some congratulated me, others could not hide their disappointment. Jack Wilshere was really upset.

"He told me his dream had been to raise the golden cup above his head in England in 2018."

Well, 1966 aside, that was probably going to be an unfulfilled dream anyway. Still, I'm guessing Arshavin responded by doing that laugh where it sounds like he has the hiccups on fast forward and making this face
