Forget the on-field decorations. Before the Cleveland Indians grounds crew could even think about spraying any paint on Progressive Field for Friday's opening day, they first had to clear the field of the 3-4 inches of snow that recently fell in the city.
Well, that's not entirely true. First they had to clear the field of Chicago White Sox players who were bringing a different kind of angels to the game than the ones that play in Los Angeles of Anaheim. Then they broke out the shovels.
The good news is that head groundskeeper Brandon Koehnke ? believe it or not �? thinks the field will be ready in time for Friday's first pitch.
From the Cleveland Plain-Dealer:
"Based on the forecast and the work we're doing, I don't have any reason to believe we can't be ready by Friday afternoon,'' Koehnke said. "It's going to be a long, painstaking process to get to that point, but these are the cards we've been dealt.''
Indeed. And it's not like they were unprepared or caught off guard by the snowstorm. After all, what's an opening day in Cleveland without snow?
