Erik Morales and Winky Wright are two of the best fighters from their era, but their time passed a few years ago. That never seems to stop the aging fighter and even worse promoters from trying to squeeze the last few bucks out of their careers. Golden Boy Promotions announced that in the fourth fight of his comeback, Morales will face slugger Marcos Maidana on Apr. 9 in Las Vegas on pay-per-view.
Yahoo! Sports' lead boxing writer Kevin Iole joined us and shook his head at the Morales-Maidana matchup. And who was asking to see Wright again?
At least there's one main event quality fight on the card, between Robert Guerrero and Michael Katsidis. That may get fans to come out the MGM Grand Garden Arena a little early.
The 27-year-old Maidana has 27 knockouts in 31 fights. He nearly knocked Amir Khan's head off in a narrow loss back in December. After a two-and-half year layoff, the 34-year-old Morales has won three straight, but the opponents were not world class fighters like Maidana. Morales was forced to retire in 2007 after four straight losses, including two knockouts at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.
