With seven goals in 17 matches for Palermo this season, 21-year-old Javier Pastore is being hailed as the next big thing and it seems he has the smarts to give himself the best chance at fulfilling that promise.
Instead of believing his own hype like so many other young players with potential and signing with a big club like Real Madrid or Barcelona where he wouldn't be guaranteed playing time and could very well spend some of his best years riding the bench, Pastore extended his deal with Palermo until 2015.
From Sky Sports:
"The offers from Barcelona and Real Madrid were concrete, they approached the club and my agent," Pastore told Olé.
"Most of the players would accept but I chose to stay in Palermo because I know that here I'll always play.
"I'm learning a lot, I don't want to stop this learning. When I'm sure that I am going to a great club to play then I'll go.
"I don't want to go and after six months I have to go on loan to another club where I should start again.
"If I keep growing, the proposal would have to appear again".
Meanwhile, in Madrid, Sergio Canales tilts his head and wonders what Pastore is talking about.
