Good news on the sponsorship front: Best Buy has re-upped with Richard Petty Motorsports, agreeing to sponsor AJ Allmendinger for another season.
Best Buy will be the primary sponsor for 26 events, 24 races as well as the Duels and the Sprint All-Star Race. The 43 will run Best Buy colors at marquee races like Daytona, Talladega, Bristol and Homestead. Best Buy will also step up and serve as an associate sponsor on Marcos Ambrose's No. 9.
It's obviously welcome news for RPM, which had teetered on the brink of collapse for months at the end of the 2010 season. Best Buy's commitment to Dinger and the whole RPM team signifies confidence in the team's stability, and that's certainly a good sign after the near-apocalypse of 2010.
Both a Best Buy corporate spokesperson and Allmendinger had comments on the deal, but since they were obviously vetted and massaged, containing words like "privilege" and "engaged" and "great partner" and other lovey-doviness, we'll skip 'em here. You know what they'll say anyway.
Another significant element of the sponsorship arrangement is that it puts NASCAR before a broad, nontraditional audience. And if Best Buy can crank up the Sunday afternoon races on some of those 100-inch HD bigscreens it has in stock, hell, I'll do race-day coverage from there.
