West Ham's Victor Obinna was sent off in the 59th minute of Tuesday's first leg of the Carling Cup semifinal for delivering a backwards kick right between Sebastian Larsson's legs on a West Ham throw in. I'm not sure why Obinna felt this was necessary, but this trend of footballers kicking each other in the crotch is becoming troublesome. There was the Asian Cup incident we featured on Tuesday, plus countless others. Perhaps its time footballers start wearing some kind of high-tech pelvic defense system.
Despite losing Obinna, West Ham still went on to score another goal in the 78th minute to go into the second leg with a 2-1 advantage.
