Before fans could settle into their seats for Friday night's South Atlantic League game between the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox affiliate) and the Charleston River Dogs (New York Yankees affiliate), a large bench clearing brawl broke out behind home plate.
And much like the latest Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski New Era ad, these guys weren't pulling any punches.
It happened after the game's second pitch when Red Sox pitching prospect Miguel Celestino plunked former Yankee first round pick Slade Heathcott. Heathcott immediately turned and went after catcher Christian Vazquez, igniting the near minute long melee.
Check out #33 Leonel Escobar getting a cheap punch and swift kick in at the 0:16 mark. Classy.
Heathcott and Vazquez were both ejected for their role in the fight, which Baseball America's Ben Badler suggests may have stemmed from a heated exchange of words between the teams three weeks ago.
Badler also links us to story a that ran in the Charleston Post and Courier mere hours before the game, detailing Slade Heathcott's troubled past and his search for salvation.
Indeed, timing is everything in the game of life.
