Federer, Serena, Rafa among five players in Forbes celebrity ranking

Five tennis players were listed in Forbes' Celebrity 100, the magazine's annual ranking of the most powerful people in the entertainment business.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Venus and Serena Williams were included on the list, which ranks the power of celebrities by various factors including earnings, press mentions and social media presence. No other sport had as many athletes in the rankings.

A grain of salt might be too much with which to take these rankings (Bon Jovi is No. 8; Katherine Heigl is more powerful than Tina Fey and somebody named Jeff Dunham is ahead of the lady who wrote "Twilight"), yet it's still an interesting look into the culture of celebrity in sports. Tennis is perpetually said to be slipping in the eyes of the American sports fan, yet the sport still manages to create, and nurture, stars.

Roger Federer is at No. 25 in the rankings, right ahead of Howard Stern, James Cameron and Charlie Sheen. He's No. 1 in Forbes' "press rank," which lists how many times celebrities get mentioned in the media or appear on the cover of magazines. Nadal ranks third on that list and comes in at No. 46 overall, just behind Brad Pitt.

Maris Sharapova is No. 80, while Serena (No. 84) and Venus (No. 86) are close behind. Sandwiched in between the sisters is rapper and noted tennis fan Lil Wayne, who hung out with Serena at a Miami Heat game earlier this season.
