Even though the second major of the year is still one month away, it's hard not to look at Woods' recent injury issues and be concerned about his status for not only the final three major championships on this year's schedule, but his long-term career as a professional golfer.
Woods would obviously like to win as many tournaments as possible. But as we all know, the only ones that matter at this point are the major championships and the race to overtake Jack Nicklaus. When he was stuck on 14 a couple years ago, passing Jack seemed like a foregone conclusion to many. But with Woods' game, and health, in disarray, catching Jack doesn't seem that easy.
Tiger's knee and leg problems definitely make you wonder how many years he has left in him. Speaking at a benefit on Tuesday, the man he's chasing said he still thinks Woods has a lot of wear left on his tires.
"He has a pretty significant injury, obviously, that is bothering him," Nicklaus said. "But I always feel like when you're injured and have the talent he has, you'll figure out a way to play and he'll figure out a way to get it back. He's got a lot more golf in him.
"I promise you, he's not done."
He may have "a lot more golf in him," but how much of that will be major championship-worthy? I think that's the biggest question that needs to be answered. Jack has always been gracious when it comes to talking about Woods during these difficult times, so we shouldn't be surprised to hear him say this.
But while he may think Tiger has something left in the tank, you can be sure there are a lot of people out there that think otherwise.
