Blackpool fans hired a plane a carry two mocking messages over Preston North End's Deepdale Stadium during their final match of the season on Saturday and Preston manager Phil "Perma-Tan" Brown is not happy about it.
The club's relegation to League One was already set before their 3-1 win over Watford to end the season, so Blackpool fans decided to mock their rivals' misfortune by having a low-flying plane carry the messages "We are superior love Blackpool" and "Poor little Preston enjoy League One"
After the match, Brown kind of made a terroristic threat and made it clear that he might get the last laugh if Blackpool go right back down to the Championship themselves. From Click Lancashire:
"If I had had a gun I would have shot them down.
"Arrest me now if you want. I found it very distasteful.
"Maybe I will be flying the Preston plane when it comes to the end of the season."
The plane prank was revenge for last season, when Preston fans hung banners of their own on bridges declaring that Blackpool are "forever in our shadow." But while the Blackpool supporters association says that their payback "was simply a bit of banter between two rival clubs, who have a healthy rivalry going back a long time," the CAA will investigate over the violation of rules that prohibit low-flying aircraft over built-up areas. That carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail, and a fine of up to 5,000. Or three hours at Phil Brown's house.
