The following big-name players won't be in action Saturday at Wimbledon: Venus Williams, Andy Murray and Victoria Azarenka. That's it. That's the list. Every other marquee name still in the men's and women's draw will play in Wimbledon's lone first weekend session. If you had Saturday plans, maybe you'll want to delay them until the late afternoon. Busted Racquet ranks the best nine matches on tap for the day:
9. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (12) vs. Fernando Gonzalez, Court 2, last on
Every match Tsonga plays turns into a thriller.
8. Robin Soderling (5) vs. Bernard Tomic, Court 1, last on
Tomic is the youngest player left in the men's draw and will have his hands full with Soderling, who came from two sets down to defeat Lleyton Hewitt in the second round.
7. Julia Goerges (16) vs. Dominika Cibulkova (24), Court 3, first on
Goerges' recent beef with a chair umpire may have been the first time in recorded history that a woman was angry at being called gorgeous.
6. Rafael Nadal (1) leads Gilles Muller, 7-6, Court 1, first on
Thanks to his big serve, the Luxembourgian surprised Nadal with a competitive first set and even held two set points before falling in a tiebreaker.
5. Caroline Wozniacki (1) vs. Jarmila Gajdosova (27), Centre Court, first on
Caro said she didn't mind playing on Court 2 on Friday, so of course those cheeky blokes at the All England Club put her on Centre Court on Saturday.
4. Juan Martin Del Potro (24) leads Gilles Simon (15), 7-6, 2-4, Court 2, second on
This will be the fourth straight day of play for Del Potro. The last time he resumed a match, he had a one set deficit. This time he'll enter with a set lead but down a break to the crafty Frenchman.
3. Novak Djokovic (2) vs. Marcos Baghdatis (32), Centre Court, last on
This will either be a three-set cakewalk for Djokovic or a five-set thriller. Baghdatis hasn't played particularly well this year but I think he's due for a cracker.
2. Serena Williams (7) vs. Maria Kirilenko (26), Court 1, second on
How do you solve a problem like Serena? Put her on Court 1 against a Maria instead of Court 2 against a Simona.
1. Roger Federer (2) vs. David Nalbandian (28), Centre Court, second on
Nalbandian was a Wimbledon finalist in 2002, the year before Federer went on his historic run at the All England Club. Injuries have kept him out of action for much of the last two years and he hasn't advanced to a Slam quarterfinal since 2006. But his serve is big and he has a career 8-10 record against Federer (though most of those wins came prior to Federer's ascension).
