Busted Racquet has kept you abreast of Novak Djokovic's attempts to befriend a British squirrel that lives in the backyard of his rented flat near Wimbledon. We can now report why Djokovic has been playing Dr. Doolittle during his down time from the most prestigious tournament in tennis: He misses his dog.
London's Telegraph reports that Djokovic is attempting to convince British officials to let his pet poodle, Pierre, into the country in time for the second week of Wimbledon. The dog traveled with Djokovic during the early part of the tennis season when the Serbian was in the midst of a historic 43-match winning streak.
From the Telegraph:
"He is upset he can't bring Pierre to Wimbledon and he is pleading with the authorities to let the dog in," said a source in the Djokovic camp. "Whenever he can he takes the dog with him. He is genuinely upset. For him this is a very serious issue."
Pierre has his own Twitter page in which he corresponds with Andy Murray's dog Maggie May and recently joined her owner on the cover of an international edition of Vogue.
We can't see what the problem would be. Pierre is white, thus fitting in with Wimbledon's clothing restrictions and as a poodle his bark wouldn't be as loud as some players' grunts. But really, this needs to happen mainly soPierre can sit in the player's box watching Novak's matches while wearing a dog sweater embroidered with his picture.
A reader notes England has strict pet traveling rules that include quarantine and 21-day holding restrictions.
