You know the drill. You're out playing some golf with the gang, not paying much attention to your cell phone. You putt out on 18, check the phone, and you see 27 voicemail messages and WHERE ARE U???? texts waiting for you. Uh-oh.
Brandt Snedeker recently found himself in just such a situation, except the outing he was on happened to be the opening round of the Honda Classic and the emergency happened to be the birth of his first child. On Friday after the second round of the Transitions, he talked a bit about the sequence of events leading up to his daughter's birth, and it sounds like there were some hairy moments in the Snedeker household on March 3.
"She was due [this past Thursday], so we were planning on inducing Wednesday night, and I always heard the first ones come late if anything," Snedeker said. "Wasn't going to play the World Golf Championships at Doral, so I was going to have two weeks, and if she came early was going to be fine. She actually called and texted my caddie on the second hole and he didn't tell me until I got done."
That is one gutsy caddie there, withholding that information. After shooting an opening-round 72, Snedeker got the news and bolted straight to the airport to catch a plane to Nashville. "I had about an hour and a half to spare," he said, then proceeding to give an anatomical description of the state of affairs when he arrived that would horrify anyone without kids, so we'll skip it here.
But congrats to the happy Snedeker family. Brandt's current standing at 6-under has him just outside the top 10 going into the weekend; a trophy would make for a nice nursery accoutrement for his new daughter, don't you think?
