Alabama's Nick Saban statue is here, and it is angry

At long last, sculptors have rendered the face and hair of Alabama coach Nick Saban to the university's and Mrs. Saban's satisfaction, and delivered a finished product to Tuscaloosa to commemorate the Crimson Tide's 2009 BCS championship. The Saban statue will be erected alongside the graven images of 'Bama's four other national championship coaches – Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings – outside Bryant-Denny Stadium, and could be premiered before the spring game on "A-Day," April 16, a full year after the original timetable for unveiling.

But no need to wait: Rivals affiliate TideSports.com already has an exclusive preview gallery with nine photos of the idol, which appears to have been modeled from a picture of Saban in the split-second before he was drenched by the traditional Gatorade bath as the clock wound down on the Tide's championship win over Texas last year:

It may have taken him a few tries, but I think the sculptor really captured the inner rage in the end. Other possible models include:

Harrison Ford
  • Harrison Ford as Han Solo.
  • Woodhouse.
  • Christian Bale in American Psycho.
  • Terra Cotta Soldier No. 1,157.
  • And of course, Napoleon.

Though the school is shooting for April 16, there is no official date for the unveiling.
