Paul Goydos gets in car accident, misses U.S. Open qualifying

Apparently this isn't the year that cars and U.S. Open qualifying mixes. First, we had the story of Richie Ramsay, who got stuck in traffic on his way back to the golf course and missed out on a playoff that would have got him in the field at Congressional, and now we have Paul Goydos and an unfortunate accident on Monday.

Goydos got a wreck, and it will cost him not only a trip to the St. Jude next week, but he won't be able to play in his sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open after breaking a rib in his car crash.

To add insult to his injury, this probably couldn't come at a worse time for the 46-year-old, who is playing his best golf since February of last season after a third place finish at the Players and another top-10 at the Colonial. For a guy that is normally cracking the ribs of journalists with his jokes and one-liners in the press room, Goydos sure sounded bummed about this recent setback.

"Withdrew from Fed-Ex St Jude and US Open Qualifying. Pretty bummed out," Goydos wrote on Twitter.

The initial report is Goydos will be out four to six weeks, and at least for Paul, we can relate.
